Gond Art exhibition in the 8 Cows Gallery, Allihies

Gond Art exhibition in the 8 Cows Gallery, Allihies, when two small rural villages create a link amazing things can happen. Nadette came across the Gond Tribe people in the village of Patangarh a few years ago and since then has been helping them to maintain their way of life by buying art from them and then selling it on again in Ireland. All money made outside of mounts, frames delivery is then  sent to India. The opening of the show was done by Cormac Boydell.

Watch the opening here below

This year in February 2023 Nadette visited the village for the third time and the first since Covid, the villagers were very happy to see her and below is a film of that visit.

Please call in any day from now until the 5 June between 1300 and 1800 to see the exhibition of unique art from India.

Google maps needs a good kick up the backside

Google maps needs a good kick up the backside, Another Google Maps night mare for these lads today, I guess it is up to 2 a month by now. I have myself reported it to Google 11 months ago, but they keep sending people down the Company scout, Allihies, Beara Peninsula. An easy solution would be for a sign saying no vehicles but that seems to be too difficult to achieve, as for the billion dollar enterprise that is Google, they will stop your service if you forget to pay a dollar, but don’t have the resources to correct very serious problems with their mapping. This has now totted up to thousands of euros of damage to vans, cars and their bodywork and clutches. Time for something to happen. As well as drivers using a bit of their own common sense…

Watch a video here below

Thankfully, like every time, a local farmer with a tractor comes along to save the day.

In this screen shot three routes from Google Maps from Castletownbere to Allihies, only one of them is possible in a car or van.

PJ Doherty Romps to victory in the Case Cup

PJ Doherty Romps to victory in the Case Cup which he played against Marc O Hare on Tuesday evening the 25 of April 2023. Marc a newcomer to the sport had taken the club by storm this year. Apparently surprising a few of the honoured club members by trouncing them on his way to this years final on his first try.

On the night though there was a bit of a bother with a hump in the middle of the hall that effected the players greatly. Luckily for Doherty with his years of experience and the defending champion his skill shone through and he took an overwhelming victory. It was not until the end of the match that Marc could get his end away, when he managed to get back three points and save some of his pride.

A great night out the crowd had plenty of fun, especially tucking into the chocolate and toffee biscuits at the end.

The club is now on its summers break, the players have a few months of well earned rest to recover from a hard winters battling it out on the astro greens.
