Cahermore Silage 2019

Cahermore Silage 2019 working away at the silage that crazy time of year is upon us. I went out in the morning for the shots of the grass cut laying in the fields. Then in the evening back for some shots of the lads collecting and baling.

Roofing old shed

Roofing old shed in Allihies on the Beara peninsula. These old stone sheds need looking after so that the Irish countryside retains some of its farming heritage. Easy to knock down an old shed and rebuild a bigger and better one, but that means we lose some of the stone work that used to be so common in the old days. This shed only needed one side doing as the other side was replaced a few years ago as it receives more of the oncoming weather. Just need a nice fine day to repair the concrete at each end of the roof.

Allihies Gorse Fire

Allihies Gorse Fire, coming home from Castletownbere and passing over Barnes gap to the surprise view of a fire on the hills over Allihies. I was late for a dinner invitation so quickly took a few shots and then went out again after dinner for some more shots from near the near the “Man Engine” of the old copper mines. Very impressive sight.

The fire brigade came out from town and had it out very quickly in what seemed to be very difficult terrain, fair play to the team.
