The main town on the Beara Peninsula. Castletownbere is a great town to use for visiting the Beara. It is Ireland’s biggest white fishing port and the second biggest fishing port in Ireland. Here lots of photos and photography of the region.

Pop-Up Boutique

Pop-Up Boutique held in the Sarah Walker Gallery in Castletownbere. The fashion show was organised by Annalene Rowland. I think all that went along had a great time. Not my usual Balooz type post but good fun never the less. Annalene was extremely grateful to all the people who came along. She was also very well supported by her friends that modelled for her. Far from easy to put yourself on the cat walk I imagine.

Sarah Walker Gallery

Sarah Walker Gallery had a great evening for Ireland’s Culture night last night. A solo exhibition by Mary Callaghan.

“Crow Head” An investigation cliffs, birds & turf thuiles.

Followed by the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra doing a set of music. Mary Callaghan also features as one of the members of the band. She had her evenings work cut out for her. I did not take any pictures of her fantastic work. Instead I bought one…

Castletownbere Coastguard Shannon Helicopter

Castletownbere Coastguard Shannon Helicopter (R115) tonight on the towns GAA pitch, a very interesting training session on how to help a helicopter crew to lower a stretcher and lift it (high line) whilst at the same time removing the spinning effect which would normally occur due to the down force of the helicopter. The crew arrived from Shannon and we set off a flare to help them coordinate themselves. They then landed and we had the pleasure of some chat and a visit aboard the helicopter. We then had a briefing and the team split into two groups to be able to try out the techniques explained to us. Great fun and an amazing amount of wind generated from the helicopter when it was close to the ground.

Many thanks to the crew from Shannon we had  a blast…
