Bere Island

Bere Island one of the islands of the South West coast of Ireland in County Cork. A great place to visit with many interesting things to do and see.

Watch the video below for an insight to the Island

Lets hope the Island and the other non-Irish speaking islands can keep their funding for the future.

Nouveau, maintenant en Français egalement….

This is a promotion Beara post on a “Zero Euro Budget”, in that, it did not cost anything. However 8.15 Euro was spent on tea and biscuits, 16 Euro on petrol and 16 Euro on the ferry fare. Plus 26 hours of work.

Sonia O’Sullivan will be visiting Bere Island soon to do their Parkrun. Thanks To Helen and John for giving me some time and information on my two trips to Bere Island.

Swimming Dursey Sound

Swimming Dursey Sound on the last day of the Allihies festival, and a difficult day it was with a strong current making it hard for some of the swimmers. So there are three ways to get to Dursey Island, boat, Cable car and swimming. Well done to all the swimmers who took part and they had a well deserved hot whiskey afterwards. Followed by a snack at the Allihies Mine Museum Cafe.

Goula Beara Cork

Goula Beara Cork, a walk to take some photos and generally enjoy the “360” degree view from the top. Not a bad day in January for a walk. I did not want to drive to Hungry hill so I could save on the petrol, sorry to Paul O’Shea about that. Goula has a great view from the top overlooking Dursey Island. You can also see, Bere Island, Calf Rock, Cow Rock, Bull Rock, the Skelligs, Scariff and Deenish Islands from the top and the town of Castletownbere the biggest white fish port of Ireland. Today was not perfect but for this time of year a nice couple of hours if a bit cold on top, especially when you stop to take photos and make a short film. There is a link at the bottom of this page to the video on youtube….

Allihies was a major copper producer in the 1800’s and for a short while was the worlds largest producer of copper ore. There are many remains of Cornish mine engine buildings, and hundreds of meters of mine adits and shafts. There is also a very good museum. check out the link Allihies copper mine museum
