Allihies a charming little village on the end of the Beara Peninsula, known for the only cable car in Ireland, the copper mining of the 19th century and quite simply its beauty . Here lots of photos and photography of the region.

Michael Dwyer Festival

Michael Dwyer Festival in Allihies a tiny village far out west on the Beara peninsula. A good turn out for the Michael Dwyer traditional Irish music festival for 2014. I did not get to take too many photos as I was busy with other things this weekend but enjoyed some good music in the evenings.

Dr Strangely Strange High Tide Club

Dr Strangely Strange High Tide Club on Friday the 17th of May a good show by the lads in Sarah Walkers gallery also known as the High Tide Club. They had the audience in the palm of their hands. Unsurprising as they have been playing together for a  number of years….The new group “The Bunties” played before as support act and sang a good half dozen songs to warm up the crowd..

Castletownbere Coast Guard

Castletownbere Coast Guard were out last night for a cliff exercise at Dooneen (near Allihies). The team trains every two weeks to keep prepared and up to date with rescue procedures. Here four sets of ropes were set up to practise different scenarios: for example rescuing or assisting people who have fallen off a cliff or become stranded by incoming tide. All the exercises went well and the team finished off with a short visit to the bar.
