O’Neill’s Bar – Sunday Session

O’Neill’s Bar – Sunday Session is every week 52 weeks a year. The session in Kevin’s bar has been going on for a very long time, it is a great evening where all year around the locals get together for a chat and a sing song. When the summer months arrive the tourists join in too. It does not matter what time of year you come to Allihies, there will always be a bit of craic in O’Neill’s bar on a Sunday night. Michael Dwyer Festival 2018

Michael Dwyer Festival 2018, this year was the twentieth anniversary of the festival and the weather was absolutely fantastic. Musicians came from near and far and lots of great sessions were to be seen and heard.

On the opening night Two time Polka gave a cracking gig in the Lighthouse bar, every body was up dancing within a few minutes.

On the Saturday lot’s of things were happening, and I guess there are photos taken but that was not my job, we had some enjoyable pints out side the bars listening to a few bits of music between.

Sunday we were away bike racing, Neil got fourth…

On Monday night we went up to Jimmy’s for what has become the unofficial closing night.

Visit Dursey Island with “An Postman Pat”. Across the Dursey sound in Ireland’s only cable car. Which is the only cable car in Europe crossing open water. On his three times a week trip delivering letters to the islanders for the past 37 years. All year around Pat Neill delivers the post to the islanders in his special van. A trip to Dursey Island is a great thing to be doing. In the summer there is even a bus which can take you from the cable car to the west end. Pat gives us a great insight into Dursey Island.

Dursey Island, has plenty of history and natural beauty. The island has a signal tower and the remains of a temporary lighthouse. In the autumn bird watchers come from a far to spot rare birds that land on the island, after days out above the Atlantic ocean.
